Abuse

Abuse can be something that is done or something that can be omitted from being done.

Abuse exists in many forms:

Physical abuse - may include hitting, punching, slapping, kicking, pinching or scratching.

Psychological abuse - may include intimidation e.g. threats of physical harm, shouting, swearing, name-calling, racist comments, deprived of normal activities or contact, humiliation, indifference, emotional blackmail.

Sexual Abuse - includes rape, sexual assault, unwanted sexual acts, sexual acts with person unable to give consent, subject to indecent exposure or teasing or innuendo. Discriminatory abuse - oppressive and prejudicial attitudes towards a persons' disability, age, race religion sexual orientations. Counselling will provide a safe non-judgemental environment and a structured process where you can acknowledge the fact of the abuse and its impact. It is important to share the way you are feeling with someone you can trust, someone who will be there for you to listen and give you support. Talking about what has happened to you can make an enormous difference and can feel like a great weight being lifted from you.
